Michael Blythe

I am a UK-based film and television writer/director. I originally trained as an editor, working on a wide variety of projects for UK broadcasters, before moving on to direct my first documentary series, Crusade, for Discovery US. This was followed by a slate of history documentaries, and a Grammy-nominated profile of comedian Stan Laurel for the prestigious arts series The South Bank Show.

In 2001, I established my own independent production company, Infonation Media where I produced a wide-reaching catalogue of programmes, devising several original documentary formats and commissioning other producers. I produced and directed three award-winning series – The Edge (Discovery), Style Tribes (Sky Arts), and Beyond Babel (Discovery). I also wrote, produced and directed the groundbreaking reality series UK/China Challenge, which had the distinction of being the first foreign television series, made specifically for the Chinese market, to be broadcast across China by CCTV One, China’s state broadcaster. UK/China Challenge drew a first-run audience of 130 million viewers. To date, Infonation programmes have been screened by 540 broadcasters in 130 countries.

More recently I have turned my attention to fiction and now concentrate on writing drama for the cinema, and television, as well as creating digital content.
